Entrepreneur Kevin Knight Talks Turning His Passion for "Just Hanging Out" Into BIG Business

"I was being two different people. I was being the ‘Corporate America Kevin’ during the day and then the ‘Party & Have Fun Kevin” at night. That gets old… because you’re not being who you really want to be 24/7. That’s no way to live life.”

- Kevin Knight

Working in corporate America simply wasn’t working for Kevin Knight. On a scale of one to ten, he was satisfied, but he couldn’t say that he was happy.

He was making good money, but he wasn’t really living a life he enjoyed. Above all, he disliked having to sport two different personas in order to stay ahead in his corporate career: the corporate Kevin by day and the cool Kevin by night.

He realized that he only had one life to live, and the one he was living wasn’t it. It was time for a change. It was time to choose a life that combined his passion with profitability and that allowed him to keep it real, being his authentic, true self.

But what was a black man to do?

Knight had heard entrepreneurs talking about turning their passion into a business, but at the time, he didn’t think that he had any type of passion that could make money from an entrepreneurial standpoint. His favorite thing to do was hang out and have fun but thought, There’s no money in hanging out, right? That is, until he figured it out.

Like most all entrepreneurs, Knight started small, ignored the naysayers who said he would never make any money with his idea, and grew his business into one of the largest urban travel companies in the nation.
Tune into The Black Money Tree podcast to listen to how Knight turned his unlikely passion into a viable business and the lessons he learned along the way.
